CBI constable, friends beat man to death

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A Central Bureau of Investigation constable has been arrested for allegedly beating up a ‘dhaba’ (roadside eatery) worker to death at Dabri in South-West Delhi.

According to the police, Constable Mahender Singh and his three friends reached “Raju Dhaba” in the Dabri area on Friday around midnight and asked the dhaba owner, Mithun, to serve them food. Mithun told them that it was too late in the night and the dhaba was closed. It enraged Mahender and his friends and they allegedly started beating up Mithun and his workers, Bablu and Upender.

Mithun and Upender managed to flee from the scene, but Bablu sustained serious injuries. He was later declared brought dead at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital. On hearing the screams, some passers-by gathered at the dhaba and caught Mahender Singh. His friends, however, escaped. Mahender was later handed over to the police.
