Police asked to ensure adequate police protection Exhorts TNEB to provide uninterrupted power supply Coimbatore: The Collector, V. Palanikumar, on Friday reviewed the security measures and arrangements for the ensuing Vinayakar Chaturthi festival and idol immersion. The Collector exhorted the police to ensure adequate police protection during the celebrations to prevent miscreants from causing trouble. Mr. Palanikumar also said that organisers of the celebrations should go in only for idols made of clay and avoid using chemical paints so that the immersion never polluted the water bodies. The water bodies permitted for immersion of idols included Singanallur tank, Muthannankulam tank, Samalapuram tank, and in Bhavani river at Sirumugai, Elagampalayam, Mettuppalayam, Subramanian Koil and Thekkampatti, at Andipalayam in PAP canal, at Pongalur PAP main canal, Ambarampalayam river, Noyyal river, in SV Puram canal at Dhali and Udumalpet, at Kaniyur in Amaravathy river, at Komangalam canal in Kedimedu PAP canal, at Anaimalai in Uppar, at Nadumalai river in Valparai, Kuniamuthur tank, Vellakinar tank and Walayar river. Mr. Palanikumar also exhorted the officials to inspect the idol immersion procession routes well in advance and plan the procession schedule. He also asked the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials to watch out for the height of the idols and help in temporarily removing the overhead traction lines. He also asked the electricity board officials to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the places where the idols had been installed. The Pollution Control Board officials were asked to ensure that the idols taken for immersion were not polluting in nature. He also asked the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel to deploy boats and safety rubber tubes at the water bodies for ensuring the safety of the organisers and the chaturthi immersion volunteers. The meeting was attended by Pollachi Sub-Collector, J. Chandrakumar, Superintendent of Police, G. Karthikeyan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), S. Rajendran, and Assistant Commissioners of Police.
