“Take research results to the masses”

PUDUKOTTAI: The need for narrowing the gap between the number of students completing their higher secondary education and those pursuing their higher education was underlined by the Vice-Chancellor of the Annamalai University M. Ramanathan.
Inaugurating the five-day regional workshop on ‘Science writing and journalism’ sponsored jointly by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication and Mayilai Tiruvalluvar Tamizh Sangam Academy, Chennai, Bharathidasan University and the J.J. College of Arts and Science here recently, Dr. Ramanathan said that although a large number of universities had been started since Independence, only negligible percentage of students completing the higher secondary courses entered the portals of the colleges. He highlighted the Government’s sustained efforts in starting more universities to cater to the higher educational needs of students.
The Vice-Chancellor of Tamil University, M. Rajendran, in his presidential address, emphasised the link between science and human life. Students should understand the basic principles of science and their applications in the daily life.
The Director,National Council for Science and Technology, Manoj Patairiya, appealed to scientists to work hard to take the fruits of scientific principles to the common masses. The purpose of scientific research and development would achieve the desired goals, only if the masses could access it at affordable prices and maximum comfort. The Managing Trustee of J. J. College, Kavitha Subramanian and the Principal J. Parasuraman were among those who spoke.
