LONDON: West Ham eased the pressure on manager Alan Curbishley with a 4-1 rout of Blackburn in the English Premier League at Upton Park on Saturday. Curbishley was under pressure from fans and pundits who claimed he should be sacked after a poor League Cup performance against Macclesfield in midweek followed hot on the heels of a lacklustre defeat at Manchester City. Jason Roberts’ goal had given Blackburn hope before half-time after West Ham led through a Callum Davenport header and Christopher Samba’s own goal. But Robert Green then produced a full stretch save from a Roberts spot kick two minutes into the second half. And substitute Craig Bellamy and Carlton Cole found the net late on to ensure there was no late comeback for the visitor. The results: Bolton 0 drew with West Bromwich 0; Everton 0 lost to Portsmouth 3 (Defoe 12, 69, Johnson 40); Hull 0 lost to Wigan 5 (Ricketts 5-og, Valencia 13, Zaki 63, 81, Heskey 68); Middlesbrough 2 (Alves 37, Sanli 85) bt Stoke 1 (Hoyte 71-og); West Ham 4 (Davenport 12, Samba 20-og, Bellamy 90, Cole 90) bt Blackburn 1 (Roberts 22). —Agencies
