VISAKHAPATNAM: The 104 service will be introduced soon in the district, Collector Sanjay Kumar said at a meeting held with the Special Officers of the service here. Every 104 vehicle would have the facility to conduct blood and urine tests, free medicines for distribution to the patients and a computer with Internet connection and would be staffed by a pharmacist, three ANMs, lab technician, a data entry operator and driver. The 104 facility could be utilised by rural people. A retired DMHO Y.V. Krishna Rao, who has been appointed as 104 Administrative Officer, said the Government had sanctioned 23 vehicles for the district and each two rural mandals would be served by one 104 vehicle. The vehicles would render service from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at one place every day in its designated area, covering population in a three km radius. As many as 84,000 people would receive medical aid in the district every month, he said. The 104 service is being organised jointly by State Government and Satyam Computers. Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Praja Parishad S. Satyanarayana, Project Director of DRDA J. Murali, Assistant Coordinator of 104 service Satya Prasad, DMHO J. Sarojini, Special Officers and others participated in the meeting.
