State intervention on tank beds sought
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: CPI (M) district committee secretary M. Krishna Murty and the party divisional secretary Reddy Sankar Rao visited the Vallabudi Cheruvu in Dharmapuri panchayat in the town along with newspersons on Sunday and found Bogi Adibabu, a helping hand in the house of Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA, and Mallesh, personal assistant to MLA’s wife and 13th ward councillor, among 22 Congress supporters, digging the tank bed.
They were doing this, reportedly, for laying the foundation of a house .
The area of the tank bed measures five acres and 35 cents. When the CPI (M) leaders intervened Adibabu and Mallesh told them that the MLA gave permission for digging pits and construction of houses.
Senior citizens Atchuta Rao and Sriramulu from the nearby colony informed the visitors that the tehsildar had refused to allot them land in the tank bed for construction of a community hall and temple citing a Supreme Court order on encroachments of tank beds but ignored action against land grabbers.
The CPI (M) leaders demanded the Government to take control of all dried up tank beds in the town and issue house-site pattas to the poor after earmarking land for community purposes.
