HYDERABAD: State BJP president Bandaru Dattatreya has urged Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to convene a meeting of farmers’ wings of all parties to discuss ways of tackling the fertilizer shortage in the State. At a press conference here on Sunday, he referred to the agitation by farmers at several places and accused the Government of misleading them on the issue. The present crisis arose due to non-payment of subsidy to fertilizer factories by the Centre. He termed as “irresponsible” the statement of Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy that parties were politicising the issue. He said the party would organise four 20-day ‘sankalp yatras’ in the State, two of which would cover Telangana, beginning September 20. He would launch the yatra at Vemulawada and former national president Bangaru Laxman would lead the yatra from Beechpally, Mahabubnagar district. Former State president Ch. Ramachandra Reddy and national executive member K. Haribabu would launch the yatras in Rayalaseema (from Tirupati) and Coastal Andhra (from Ichapuram), respectively. Apart from the party’s agenda, the leaders would focus on price rise, farmers’ problems, vote-bank politics and terrorism, he said. Rising prices were causing severe hardship to the people and all sections were discontented with the government.
