Demand for a bypass road for Kothagudem under consideration



KOTHAGUDEM: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy said here on Sunday that the State Government was actively considering a proposal to establish a university in Khammam.

Addressing a public meeting after formally launching Rajiv Arogyasri programme at a mega health camp organised at the Prakasham stadium, he said that there was a need for starting a university offering courses in mining technology and tribal development.

Two Ministers - Sambhani Chandrasekhar and Vanama Venkateswara Rao along with two MLAs and MLCs of the party from the district had already made a representation on the issue.

The Higher Education Department had been asked to study the scope for setting it up in Khammam and once the report was received the government would take a decision very soon.

The Chief Minister also unveiled a pylon marking the implementation of G.O. 373 aimed at regularisation of the structures and residential plots. Some 12,000 people owning houses and business establishments without valid documents supporting their ownership would be given pattas.

It is a dream come true for the people of the town, the Chief Minister said and added that the residential plots would be regularised on payment of a nominal charge of Rs. 8 a square yard.

He assured the residents that the demand for a bypass road for the coal town would also be considered.

Union Minister of State for Woman and Child Development Renuka Chowdary, Minister for Health Galla Aruna Kumari, Minister for Tribal Welfare D. S. Redya Naik, MLAs R. Venkata Reddy, Jalagam Venkat Rao, Payam Venkateswarlu, Gummadi Narsaiah, MLCs P. Sudhakar Reddy and M. Bhatti Vikramarka, and Collector Shashibhushan Kumar were among those present.
