Osmania Hospital in ‘poor health’

The unhygienic surroundings in Osmania hospital are creating a lot of hardships to patients, besides those visiting the hospital. Parts of the building are in a dilapidated condition. Plaster from the ceiling is peeling off and some times fall on the unsuspecting patients. Garbage is strewn all around and one can find pools of stagnant water on the hospital premises with foul smell emanating from them. The toilets doors are in a dilapidated condition and some toilets do not have any doors. There is an acute water shortage. Patients who are mostly from poor families put up with the bad condition as treatment in corporate hospitals is expensive. Such surroundings will only worsen the patients’ condition. Will the authorities do the needful?

Unauthorised rail travellers

Instances of unauthorised passengers forcibly entering sleeper coaches just before the train starts are numerous. They block the way towards the entrance and toilets and sometimes they sleep along the aisles creating problems to ticket holders. There may be pilferers in this category as a hand bag was stolen from a sleeping woman at Piduguralla in Narayanadri express bound for Secunderabad on the night of August 18. Though the chain was pulled, nobody turned up to enquire and the train started in just five minutes. Hope the railway authorities take care in preventing unauthorised entries.

Safety in trains

The surcharge being levied on rail tickets for providing safety to travellers appears to unutilised as noticed after ghastly incident in Gauthami express train. A few suggestions are made to avoid recurrence of such tragedies. Posting of security personnel in coaches, allotment of one TC to monitor one/two coaches only, against the existing system of four/six. Besides, they should be provided with seats only in place of berths as they are often seen sleeping. Provision of fire extinguishers and a first-aid box in each coach and public address system to awaken commuters during nights.

Where is transparency?

Though the APSCHE has released several G.Os restricting manipulations in the management quota seats in private engineering colleges, most of the colleges are yet to issue notification. Surprisingly majority of the seats are already sold out. Some of colleges issued notification in newspapers but are not going for processing. Everybody knows that 90 per cent of the colleges have collected amounts ranging from Rs. 4 to Rs. 15 lakh as donation. Hope the authorities concerned would look into the matter and rectify the anomalies.
