HYDERABAD: After withdrawing his application from the Election Commission for registration of Praja Rajyam Party, V. Chennakrishnaiah, the advocate from Kadapa who shot into the limelight, announced that he was ‘not interested in politics’ and had not made any effort ‘so far’ to join film star Chiranjeevi’s party. The advocate made a sudden appearance at the film star’s office on Sunday even as a debate rages in political circles that Chiranjeevi’s camp had won him over and made him withdraw his application. He was immediately whisked away to the interiors of the party office by some close aides of Mr. Chiranjeevi to avoid the media glare. Mr. Chennakrishnaiah, who held discussions with Mr. Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law, Allu Aravind, appeared before the media later and said that his decision to withdraw the application was based on a “message from my conscience.” He held that “there was no pressure” on him from any quarter to withdraw the application. He said he was unaware of the name of the film star’s party or his flag at the time of submitting his letter to the Election Commission. He had selected the name, ‘Praja Rajyam’ from an old publication on Indian history, contents of which inspired him to float a political party. “On learning that Mr. Chiranjeevi announced that his political party would be named Praja Rajyam, I consulted experts and well wishers who advised me to withdraw,” he said.
