dated September 2, 1958: Underdeveloped nations

The Government of India was, in principle, in favour of the U.N. Secretary-General’s suggestion for the setting up of a pool of expert administrators on an experimental and modest scale to serve in underdeveloped countries, Mr. Sadath Ali Khan, Parliamentary Secretary in the External Affairs Ministry, stated in the Lok Sabha on September 1. Mr. Nehru added that India supplied a large number of experts — administrative, educational, scientific, irrigation, etc. — to various countries in Asia and Africa, and hoped India would not require administrative officers or technical officers from abroad.
