VIZIANAGARAM: Poor people who were not included in Indiramma programme, under the aegis of CPI (M), laid a siege to Revenue Divisional Office here on Monday demanding an inquiry into grabbing of tank bed lands by men of Congress leaders. They also demanded house-site pattas for the lands they occupied during the recent ‘struggle for land’ programme. Revenue Divisional Officer S. Dilli Rao assured Reddy Sankar Rao, CPI (M) divisional secretary, that a tehsildar from another mandal (as the party lost confidence in the local tehsildar) would be asked to survey the tank beds and submit a report to him by September 7. The tehsildar would also stop ongoing construction activities on tank beds particularly at Vallabudi Cheruvu in Dharmapuri panchayat. The RDO asked the poor to submit list of names for sanction of houses under the programme at the earliest. Mr. Sankar Rao said that the poor would intensify agitation if encroachers were not vacated from the tank beds. In a separate memorandum, TDP district president Y. Ramana Murty, residents of Padmavathi Nagar, Venkateswara Colony, RTC Colony and Gayatri Nagar urged the Collector to protect tank beds to help recharge groundwater table.
