Aplastic anaemia patient waits for aid

Correspondent

He has been surviving on transfusion of blood every month and it cost him Rs.12000

VIZIANAGARAM: Twenty-five-year-old Ch. Tirupathi Naidu, son of a farm labourer of Tallaburidi village in Parvathipuram mandal, has been waiting for financial assistance ever since the district administration allegedly rejected his appeal for treatment under Arogyasri. He has been running from pillar to post for medical assistance after he was diagnosed with ‘aplastic anaemia’ which, reportedly, needs bone marrow transplantation.

‘No official help’

Doctors in Parvathipuram Area Hospital reportedly informed him that the disease was not included in the list of treatments offered under the Arogya Sri and hence he cannot be helped in any way. Mr. Naidu, along with his father Jagannadham, was here at the grievance cell in Collector’s Office on Monday with the hope of receiving approval from the administration for treatment. But, the officials expressed their inability to help him. “They have not even received my representation,” he told waiting correspondents.

He said that doctors at Vellore in Tamil Nadu informed him that bone marrow transplantation, the only alternative to treat aplastic anaemia, would cost over Rs.5 lakhs. He has been surviving on transfusion of blood every month and it cost him, including medicines, Rs.12000 which he cannot afford any more. Already his father sold 20 cents of agriculture land he owned in his village for treatment, he lamented. The patient can be contacted on phone: 9963421263.
