Horticulture Research Centre jubilee fete

Ambajipeta (Konaseema): The Horticulture Research Centre in Ambajipet will celebrate its golden jubilee for five days from Tuesday.

The Research Centre has occupied fourth place and in productivity it occupies first place in the State.

East coast tall, ordinary Philippines, Cochin China and other varieties are under research for many years and got good results.

‘Ganga Bondam’, smallest breed which got national awards, was also the feather in the cap of the research center. However, hybrid varieties were produced first time in 1991 with the name of Godavai-Ganga and in 1993 ‘Double Century’ variety.

After Research the Scientists finally released Ganga Bondam with the name of Gowtami Ganga in National Market and then Keer Bastar, Kalpa Prathibha were also released for cultivation purpose. Dr. A. Sujatha has contributed her entire life for the research in Entomology of coconut. Head of the centre B. Srinivasulu and Prof. Sujatha are making arrangements for the five-day jubilee celebrations.
