Bangalore: The former Prime Minister and national president of the Janata Dal (Secular), H.D. Deve Gowda, has condoled the death of the noted industrialist and philanthropist, Krishna Kumar Birla. In a condolence message here on Monday, he said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of noted industrialist and former Rajya Sabha member Dr. Krishna Kumar Birla. I shared an excellent personal rapport with him and in his passing away, the nation has lost one of its most illustrious sons. A firm believer in the industry’s responsibility towards society and the nation at large, the late industrialist was an epitome of humility and simplicity. Despite his strong religious beliefs and friendly ties with leaders cutting across the political spectrum, Mr. Birla remained committed to the secular values enshrined in the Constitution.” Mr. Gowda said K.K. Birla who was a staunch believer in the freedom of press never interfered in the editorial affairs of his media ventures, despite his political loyalties. “His multi-faceted personality was reflected not only in the huge industrial empire that he built and successfully managed despite all odds, but also in his passion for education, literature, art and culture, his love for philanthropy, his deep faith in religion and his active involvement as a Parliamentarian.” The former Prime Minister said the nation shall remain grateful to him for his services and contributions. There cannot be a more befitting tribute to such a great soul than our young entrepreneurs and industrialists imbibing the values of philanthropy, charity and corporate social responsibility which he preached and practised till his last breath.
