Orhan Pamuk’s novel hits the stands

ANKARA: Turkey’s world-famous novelist Orhan Pamuk launched his latest novel, “The Museum of Innocence”, this weekend in Turkey, local media has reported.

The novel is a love story between a rich man and a poor girl set in Istanbul. It will be translated into more than 30 languages. The first translated version will be published in Germany two weeks after the release in Turkey. Mr. Pamuk, whose works are widely translated, told the Sunday newspaper Sabah that the novel “is my most tender novel, and the one that shows the most patience and respect for people.” His publisher has said on the Internet site created for promotion of the book that the novel centred on love, just as “Snow” focused on politics or “My Name is Red” blended painting, mystery and romance. Around 1,00,000 copies of the new book have been sold in two days, according to the newspaper, citing the publishers.

“The Museum of Innocence” is also the name of an unopened museum that Mr. Pamuk has been trying to establish in the Cukurcuma district of Istanbul. The museum will exhibit several objects which are delineated in the novel. — Xinhua
