Major distraction

Mobile phone is turning out to be a major distraction for the youth. The amount of time youngsters are spending on mobile phone seems to be on the increase at an alarming rate.

During the senior badminton championship at Tirupati recently, none could miss noticing the young players wasting their precious pre-play energy by chatting over the mobile phone, without bothering to think how it would disturb their attention before a match.

Some players were spotted discussing the nuances of the match over phone, apparently with their near and dear ones, barely a few minutes before the start. No wonder, most of them failed to make an impact on the tournament.

Point of discussion

Staff of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation realised recently that receiving bouquets on one occasion is no guarantee to not receiving brickbats in their service. They realised this when Municipal Commissioner P. S. Pradyumna, who inspected housing works taken up under JNNURM, suspended Assistant Engineer (Housing) J.V.S. Prabhakar and sought explanation from Deputy Executive Engineer K. Vijay Kumar and Executive Engineer Ch. Dhanunjaya for alleged poor quality of works. This punishment was awarded to Mr. Prabhakar and Mr. Vijay Kumar in less than a fortnight of giving them best performance awards during Independence Day celebrations.

A pat on the back and the crack of a whip came to the officials in quick succession, which is a point of discussion in the corridors of the VMC these days.

No solace

They said it was a fashion show.

Invitees landed well in advance for an exhibition-cum-sale of designer garments by a Hyderabad-based showroom at a star hotel in the city.

On the sidelines, according to the invitation, was a fashion show to be graced by none other than Telugu film star Prabhas.

Not to miss the double bonanza, the lensmen, eager to go berserk on their cameras at the sight of the models and the film star, landed at the venue well in time, only to be told that the hero of the show was not coming.

The crestfallen shutterbugs now turned to their other fascination for some solace.

To their dismay, they saw a single lady, seen in the morning assisting the salesmen, now clad in a designer sari and strutting across the place!
