Official moves court for bail
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: A Special Assistant in the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department, who has been arrested for alleged leak of a taped conversation between the then Chief Secretary and the Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, has moved the Madras High Court seeking bail.
In his petition, Mr. A. Sankar said he was innocent and made a scapegoat in the matter relating to the publication of the conversation. He was arrested on July 17 from the DVAC office.
He was abused by the police and tortured in custody.
He said a perusal of the FIR did not disclose the ingredients of any offence.
The case was an example of worst human rights violations. Without application of mind, the police had registered the case as a knee-jerk reaction.
There was no evidence that he had knowledge about the recordings made by the Director of DVAC.
The Principal Sessions Court had earlier dismissed his bail application on August 18.
