Radars collapse at Chennai airport
CHENNAI: Arrival and departure of more than a dozen flights were delayed at the Chennai airport on Monday night after the sudden collapse of both primary and secondary radars.
According to Airports Authority sources, the radars broke down around 7.30 p.m. due to failure of the UPS system. Authorities at the Air Traffic Control tower had to switch over to procedural control instead of radar vectoring, they said. The approach radar was restored in about 20 minutes and the area radar, covering a distance of about 250 nautical miles, was also restored later, the sources added. — Special Correspondent
