HUBLI: As many as 21 teams of architecture students from 18 engineering colleges of Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka will participate in a zonal level “Third awards programme for excellence in architecture thesis” to be held at B.V. Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology (BVBCET), Hubli, from September 4 to 6. The Council of Architecture (COA), Delhi, in association with the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Architecture (NIASA), Pune, will hold the event for the first time in Hubli. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Head of the Department of Architecture, BVBCET, Arun Huilgol, Professor Gururaj Joshi, chief event coordinator Vinaya Hiremath and coordinator Amruta Dharwad gave details on the programme, which is part of a national-level event. Part of curriculumMs. Hiremath and Ms. Dharwad said that the thesis would be part of the curriculum of the final year students of architecture. The colleges would send a maximum of two theses from their colleges to the contest. On the second day of the event, the best 10 theses would be short-listed by a three-member jury appointed by the COA comprising experts from across the country. They said the teams selected would be given 40 minutes to make an audio-visual presentation on their theses based on which the jury will select two zonal finalist-teams, which would be given a cash prize of Rs. 20,000 each. Both the teams would qualify for the national finals to be held in Jaipur this month, and Rs. 1.20 lakh was at stake in the finals, they explained. Mr. Huilgol said that architect Sumitro Ghosh of Matthew and Ghosh Architects, New Delhi, would inaugurate the event on September 4, which would be followed by a presentation by another architect Yatin Pandya. He said president of COA, Vijay Sohoni, would participate in the inaugural programme. ExhibitionProf. Joshi said an exhibition pertaining to the theses would be held during the competition. This is open to the public.
