SC/ST Commission gets 71 complaints

Panel suggests on-the-spot remedies for

minor complaints


MALAPPURAM: The State Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Commission, which held a sitting at District Collectorate here on Tuesday, got 71 complaints from the people belonging to SC/ST communities. As many as 64 of them were individual complaints and seven public complaints.

The individual complaints were mainly about denial of educational allowances, power connection, disputes over setting up electric lines, land deeds, waiving of loans, disputes over land and routes, and harassment from other people. The public complaints were related to drinking water, road and cemetery. Commission members Sekharan Miniyodan and Rugmini Subramanian accepted complaints from the people. The Commission suggested on-the-spot remedies for minor complaints, and put off the other complaints to adalats in different departments. The date of the adalats will be announced later, the Commission said. The Commission will accept complaints in a sitting to be held at Nilambur Block Panchayat Hall on Wednesday. District Collector M.C. Mohandas, Scheduled Caste Development Officer V. Soman Nair, and Tribal Development Project Officer K.T. Peethambaran Nair were present.
