Staff Reporter

PALANI: More facilities for pilgrims will be created at Dhandayuthapaniswamy Temple this year. The temple will have a modern hair offering hall, more seating facility at winch station and a massive dining hall at Dhandapani Nilayam. These projects will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs.2.53 crore.

These announcements were made at the inaugural function of redesigned rope car system and panchamritham making unit here on Tuesday.

The Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, K. R. Periakaruppan, said 48 temples were being renovated in the State at a cost of Rs.10 crore. Nine golden raths of various temples had been renovated and 13 were under renovation.

Revenue Minister I. Periasamy praised the Chief Minister for granting more funds for temple development.

HR and CE Commissioner T. Pichandi announced that a special patron scheme would be introduced for donors. Devotees, who offered Rs.5 lakh for temple development, would be given a gold card. Donors and their family members can use this card to have special darshan, except on festival days, in all major temples under the control of HR and CE Department for 20 years.

He said the revenue of the Palani temple was nearing Rs.100 crore. Hundial collection went up to Rs.12.07 crore and panchamirtham sales touched Rs.10 crore in 2007-08.

Collector R. Vasuki said the much awaited Kodaikanal-Adukkam-Periakulam hill road would be opened for traffic by September-end. Present security arrangements, including surveillance dome camera on the hill temple, should become a permanent feature for providing adequate security to pilgrims, she said.
