TAMBARAM: The priest of a temple in Thoraipakkam was tricked and a gold chain was stolen on Tuesday. Police said Thirunavukkarasu was a priest at the Gangai Amman Koil Temple, Pallavan Colony, Thoraipakkam. On Tuesday, a man came to temple and made a cash offering. The priest went out for a brief while and when he returned, noticed a gold chain around the presiding deity missing. The police suspect the devotee, who made the cash offering, to have committed the crime. The Thoraipakkam police are investigating. Two arrestedThe Chromepet police on Tuesday arrested two men on charges of harassing a businessman and charging high rates of interest from him on a loan of Rs. 10,000 that he took. According to the police, Kanniappan of CLC Lane in Chromepet had taken a loan of Rs. 10,000 from Anbu and Nagappan about two years ago. Kanniappan is reported to have signed on a blank sheet of paper while obtaining the loan. Though he managed to repay most of the loan amount, he had expressed his inability to pay the high rates of interest demanded by Anbu and Nagappan, who are reported to have attempted to take over his property, using the document. Unable to put up with the harassment, Kanniappan submitted a complaint during daily grievance at the Chennai Suburban Police Commissionerate on Monday. The complaint was forwarded to the Chromepet police station and the personnel on Tuesday arrested Anbu and Nagappan .
