While being posted with the Ordnance wing he allegedly amassed assets worth over .1.97 crore CBI registered a case against Brigadier Samir Barun Roy the day he retired from service NEW DELHI: A retired Army brigadier who was posted with the Ordnance wing has been booked by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The agency raided his properties in Delhi and Pune and claimed to have seized about Rs.12 lakh in cash besides cars, jewellery and documents of properties. The CBI registered a case against Brig. Samir Barun Roy on Saturday, the day he retired from service. The agency found that while being posted with the Ordnance wing he had allegedly amassed movable and immovable assets worth over Rs.1.97 crore in his name and also in the name of his wife and mother. According to the CBI, the assets included 18 commercial shops at prime locations in Delhi, Greater Noida, Pune and Secunderabad, a flat, agricultural land and farmhouse in Pune. The agency also claimed to have found documents indicating that the brigadier operated a dozen bank accounts allegedly running into lakhs of rupees. He allegedly owned luxury cars and had made heavy investments in shares and fixed deposits. The CBI sleuths conducted searches at three premises of the accused, one in Pune and two in Delhi, during which they claimed to have seized Rs.9.15 lakh in cash, 10 gold biscuits, an Opel Astra car and several incriminating documents pertaining to various properties. The search at his Pune residence resulted in the seizure of Rs.2.87 lakh in cash, jewellery and documents of a Gurgaon plot and a Greater Noida property, a Chevrolet and a Maruti car, and equity shares worth about Rs.2 lakh, said a CBI officer.
