THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With a view to harnessing technology to fight social and environmental ills, Zyxware Technologies, a Thiruvananthapuram-based IT firm, is organising a Freedom Walk from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram beginning Gandhi Jayanthi day. The walk is to “claim, ensure and preserve” three ‘freedoms’ that the company says it believes in: free software, freedom from social evils and freedom to live the future. Along with the walk that will be led by company CEO Anoop John, Zyxware will organise seminars and talks in schools, colleges and other educational institutions along the way. “We believe there is a lot of latent goodwill in society, there are a lot of good people. There are also a lot of bad things going on. By organising the walk and seminars we hope to utilise the former to fight the latter,” Mr. John explained at a press conference here on Thursday. The walk would also be used as a platform to connect with people and organisations who share a similar vision. In the next stage the company would set up a Web-based framework for collaboration with individuals and companies to carry forward the work.’ A core aim of the walk would be to reach out to Linux Users Groups in the State and to try and replicate the successful activities of the GNU/Linux Users Group in Thiruvananthapuram. The company would float a foundation to spearhead its activities, Mr. John added.
