PDS staff fined for shortage of stock
Staff Reporter
Tirupur: The Civil Supplies Department on Thursday imposed fine on two bill clerks employed at the public distribution system (PDS) outlet operated by a self-help group at Chandrapuram here, after shortage of stock was detected during inspection.
The check was conducted by a team headed by the Special Tahsildar (Civil Supplies), Mohan Kumar, following widespread complaint from public on the functioning of the shop.
Official sources said that about 20 kg of rice was found missing from the shop. On the instructions of Mr. Kumar, both the bill clerks were replaced with two other members of the same SHG.
Road roko
Earlier on Wednesday, traffic on Tirupur-Dharapuram road was disrupted for almost an hour after 200 out of the 1,600 ration card holders registered at the shop staged a road roko demanding dismissal of the FPS staff for irregularities in the sale of essential commodities like rice and sugar.
The family card holders alleged that the bill clerks at the shop had been creating artificial shortage of commodities frequently causing great hardship to the consumers.
