ALAPPUZHA: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has allayed fears that land acquisition for industrial purposes would affect agriculture. The applications received for land for industries at present was less than half a per cent of the entire agricultural acreage in the State. Speaking at the inauguration of distribution of Soil Health Cards in the Mararikulam North panchayat on Thursday, Dr. Isaac said initiatives like the Wetlands and Paddy Fields Conservation Bill were introduced to ensure that agricultural land was not misused while other measures like interest-free loans, seed and fertilizer subsidies and crop insurances were to encourage agriculture in the State. At the same time, the government would ensure that there were adequate investments in the industrial sector.
