1,100 Home Guards to be recruited in Mysore district

Recruitment drive to begin on Sunday and end on September 15

deployed during Dasara celebrations’


MYSORE: The authorities are planning to recruit 1,100 Home Guards in Mysore district. With this, the total strength of the Home Guards in the district will increase to 2,000.

Disclosing this to presspersons here on Tuesday, Commandant of Home Guards Chandrakumar S.G. said a recruitment drive would be held in various parts of the district from Sunday.

The drive will end on September 15.

The newly recruited Home Guards will be deployed during the Dasara festival scheduled to begin this month-end, according to Dr. Chandrakumar.

Though the Home Guards is a voluntary organisation, the candidates would receive remuneration for their services whenever they would be deployed for security arrangements at the Government’s behest, he said.

“In such cases they will receive remuneration of about Rs. 3,000 a month,” he said.

Employees of government departments, quasi-government departments, public sector undertakings and private sector could also become Home Guards, he said.

Candidates aspiring to become Home Guards should be aged above 20, physically fit and must have passed at least Class IV. However, preference would be given to candidates who have passed SSLC, he said. Deputy Commandant A.M. Srinivas and Assistant Administrative Officer, Home Guards, Mysore, H. Thippeswamy were present on the occasion.

Interviews for candidates aspiring to become Home Guards will be held at Bharat Scouts and Guides Grounds, behind the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mysore from 8.30 a.m. on September 7. For details, contact unit officer M.R. Gajagopi on Ph: 2542877.
