THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: What better way to celebrate Teachers’ Day than becoming a teacher? This thought must have crossed the minds of 60 students of SMV Government Model HSS at Thiruvananthapuram who became teachers on Thursday as part of the school’s Teachers’ Day celebrations. ‘Handed over’The school was ‘handed over’ to the students who literally took charge of the institution for the day. No, the role of the ‘teachers’ was not limited to explaining difficult concepts and giving notes, some of them also had a feel of what it takes to become a Principal and a Headmaster. While A.G. Abhimanyu of class X was the Headmaster for the day, the responsibilities of the principal were taken over by R. Sarith of class XII. Jishnu of standard XII was the vice-principal and Aravind of class X served as the senior assistant. Dignity and valueAccording to the school authorities, the idea of the programme was to make the children understand the dignity and value of the teaching profession. School headmaster M.P. Mohanan termed the programme a ‘great success.’ Apart from bringing out the teacher in each of these 60 students, the programme also served to create awareness in them about the functioning and administration of the school.
