Recently, he floated a fictitious software company He stole credit cards of Satyam employees HYDERABAD: A 27-year-old man, who started allegedly began his criminal life by stealing bicycles and recently duped unemployed youth by floating a fictitious software company, was arrested by the police on Thursday. The accused, Ramana, was facing several charges, including duping four women in the name of marriage and falsely claiming to be the son of a top official and relative of influential politicians, the Commissioner’s Task Force DCP V.B. Kamalasan Reddy told a press conference. Software lureAn Intermediate drop-out, Ramana hails from G. Bhavavaram village of East Godavari district. Recently, he floated a fictitious software company at S.R. Nagar by renting an office in a posh locality, recruiting two IT professionals and distributing pamphlets at computer training institutes, inviting applications for various jobs. Over 700 candidates approached him. He collected Rs. 100 each from all of them and Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 8,000 from 60 candidates promising to induct them after imparting training. Earlier, he went to the office of a project leader in Satyam Computers and stole the ID card of an employee. Using that card, he entered the Satyam office at Rasoolpura, stole credit cards of some employees and used them to purchase gold jewellery. Police were on the look-out for him when the Task Force (North) team nabbed him at S.R. Nagar on a tip-off. Many ‘roles’The DCP explained that Ramana’s criminal record began in 1999 when he began stealing bicycles to imitate the lavish lifestyle of his classmates from rich families during his Intermediate studies. Claiming to be an engineering graduate, he joined as a tutor in a private junior college, but was arrested subsequently. He married an army major’s daughter, an MBA degree holder, after leading her to believe that he was a doctor. Ramana later joined a private hospital in Nellore as an ophthalmologist, eloped with a chemist working there and was arrested on charges of cheating and bigamy. Stole laptopsWhile travelling from Kakinada to Nellore in train, he used to steal laptops of passengers and alight at the next station. The Railway Police arrested and remanded him in jail in these cases.
