Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Thursday that the government would make land available for industrial development on reasonable terms.

“The State is poised for a big leap in the IT sector. The Infopark at Kochi is expected to absorb 40,000 IT professionals over the next three years. The proposed Cyber Park at Kasaragod and IT Parks at Kollam, Alappuzha, Kasaragod and other districts will help to attract more investment,” he said.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the government had succeeded in bringing several loss- making public sector industries out of the red.

“The Coach Building Factory at Palakkad, container transhipment terminals at Vizhinjam and Vallarpadam, Kannur airport, National Waterway, LNG terminal and Metro Rail will help to bring more investment to Kerala.”

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for a 110-kV power sub-station at the site.

Ministers M. Vijayakumar and N.K. Premachandran, Varkala Radhakrishnan, MP; M.A.Vahid, MLA; Deputy Mayor V. Jayaprakash, councillor Sivadath, IT Secretary Dr. Ajayakumar and Technopark CEO N. Radhakrishnan Nair also spoke. The phase three development of the Technopark campus will cover 92 acres. Estimated to cost Rs.1,500 crore, the project will be developed as a Special Economic Zone. It is expected to become operational by 2012. Mr. Radhakrishnan Nair said 60 out of the 92 acres earmarked for the project had already been acquired. While 40 acres would be developed by private firms,

the Technopark would develop the rest and offer it to IT companies interested in setting up their own facilities.
