Staff Correspondent

SPECIAL DAY: Bijapur Zilla panchayat president Afsarabegum Chapparband inaugurating the Teachers Day celebrations in Bijapur on Friday.

BIJAPUR: Instead of concentrating on completing the syllabus in the stipulated time, teachers should focus on providing a good education to prepare children to meet challenges in a competitive world, said Bijapur Zilla Panchayat president Afsarabegum Chapparband.

Speaking after inaugurating the Teachers’ Day celebrations organised by zilla panchayat and the DDPI office here on Friday, she called upon teachers to become models for society by imbibing qualities of S. Radhakrishnan, a great teacher.

Overall development

Apart from teaching the regular syllabus, teachers should encourage students to take an active part in extracurricular activities for the overall development of their personalities.

M.B. Patil, MLA, said teachers played a vital role in shaping the personalities of students. Teachers should expand their knowledge by reading extensively.

He lauded the step taken by the Education Department to felicitate teachers for outstanding performance. “Such an honour will encourage teachers to perform their duties more effectively,” he added. Appasaheb Pattanshetty, MLA, presided. Vittal Katakdond, MLA, Deputy Commissioner C.M. Shirol, and zilla panchayat chief executive officer K.H. Kaknur were present.
