GULBARGA: Senior vice-president of the Janata Dal (Secular) David Simeon on Saturday categorically ruled out any alliance with the Congress in the forthcoming byelections in seven Assembly constituencies and said the party would contest the elections on its own. ccusing the Congress of failing as the main Opposition party in the State in exposing failures of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government, Mr. Simeon, accompanied by senior vice-president of the minority wing of the party Mukram Khan and district president of the party Basavaraj Tadkal, told presspersons that the desertion by a few MLAs did not mean the JD(S) had been weakened. He said, “When the possibility of an alliance with the Congress came up for discussion in the party, I told Mr. Deve Gowda (party president) and Mr. Kumaraswamy (former Chief Minister) that there is no need to align with the Congress, and the party should go it alone in the byelections.” He said Mr. Deve Gowda had initiated measures to form a third alternative to the BJP and the Congress in national and State politics. Mr. Simeon and Mr. Tadkal said the party would observe September 8 as a protest day throughout the State to voice their indignation over the failures of the BJP Government in the State, which would be completing 100 days in power in a couple of days. Party leaders would lead a procession and hold dharnas to highlight the failures of the Government.
