Rain claims four lives in Gulbarga

Fields inundated, crops damaged in four taluks in the district



Devastation: The house that collapsed at Kallu Devanahalli in Surpur taluk in Gulbarga district.

GULBARGA: Four persons were killed in two rain-related incidents in Surpur taluk in Gulbarga district on Friday and Saturday. There has been heavy rain in the district for the past few days.

An old woman and two children were crushed to death when a portion of their house collapsed at Kallu Devanahalli in Hunsagi police station limits in the early hours of Saturday.

The victims were identified as Mehboobi Gokul Sab (58), Kasim Sab (6) and Peer Ma (4).

In another incident, Sharanamma Lankappa (45) of Tuppada Bommanahalli, who was returning from her fields, died when a tree fell on her on Friday. Heavy rain in Yadgir, Shahapur, Surpur and Jewargi on Friday night flooded hundreds of acres of agricultural land.

Assessing damage

The damage caused to agricultural crops and private property is being assessed.
