Retired employees demand pension, gratuity

Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR: Members of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) retired employees association staged a dharna in front of the KSRTC divisional office on Saturday urging the Government to fulfil their various demands, including release of 71 per cent gratuity in accordance with the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission.

Other demands of the protesters included regular release of pension to all retired employees, withdrawal of false cases against them and release of leave encashment amount. They also demanded that the pension amount of employees who retired from January 2008 onwards be released immediately. Addressing the protesters, association president B.P. Patil alleged that authorities concerned were unnecessarily delaying the release of the pension amount to retired employees. “The authorities concerned are spreading rumours that our demands have already been fulfilled,” he said. He also warned that the agitation would not be withdrawn until their demands were met.
