Spectacular: Chinese athlete Hou Bin lights the cauldron of the Paralympic Games during the opening ceremony at the National Stadium — the Bird’s Nest — on Saturday. More than 4,000 competitors from nearly 150 countries will battle for 472 gold medals in 20 sports at the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube. The Paralympics has the theme “Two Games with Equal Splendour.”
