4 held on kidnap charge

BERHAMPUR: Marital tussle led to the kidnapping of an infant in Ganjam district. Four persons involved in the kidnapping were arrested by police.

According to a complaint lodged by Bijay Panigrahy of Purushottampur, his son-in-law Bansidhar Sahu, with the help of seven armed miscreants, had forcibly entered his house and took away his one year old grand-daughter. But Bansidhar and one of his associates could not manage to escape. They were nabbed by the villagers of Purushottampur. But their two other associates fled with the child in a jeep. Berhampur police managed to track down these two at Kamapalli area of the city and rescued the child. The child was returned to her mother, Pragya Priyadarshini, who now stays with her parents. The arrested persons were forwarded to Berhampur court on Saturday and their bail pleas were rejected by the court. According to sources a marital problem had led to this violent kidnapping. Around three years ago Pragya had married Bansidhar. A few months ago she went to live with her parents, along with her one-year-old child, alleging torture by her husband and in-laws. According to her father, her in-laws and their hired goons had also threatened them in the past. Police are still searching forpersons involved in the case .
