STP at Nagole to start next month Nallacheruvu STP getting completed
Clean job: The STP which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy at Amberpet on Sunday. Hyderabad: The polluted Musi is in for better days. The city is now fully geared to tackle the 600 mld of sewage entering the river from 18 open nalas on its either sides. With the commissioning of the 339 mld sewage treatment plant at Amberpet, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is now in a position to meet the pollution challenge posed to the river. In the next six months, the Musi is expected to be totally free from pollution as the sewage is treated to river-disposable standards and let into it. Trial runs have already commenced for the Rs. 93.51 crore Amberpet STP, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Sunday. Tenders finalisedThe STP at Nagole will be inaugurated next month while the one at Nallacheruvu is getting completed. Tenders were being finalised for the Attapur STP and it would be ready by next year, said G. Asok Kumar, managing director, HMWSSB. He told presspersons here on Saturday that with the commissioning of all the four STPs the entire sewage generated in the project area would be diverted and treated. Till the Godavari water comes to the City in 2011, the present STPs would be sufficient to tackle the sewage. There were also some spin-off benefits. Nearly 60 metric tonnes of dried sludge would be generated per day which was useful as fertilizer for horticulture while the treated water could be used for irrigation purpose.
