10 kg. gold looted near Hyderabad airport
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: In a daring daylight robbery, two persons armed with weapons looted more than 10 kg of gold jewellery from the employees of a courier company outside the cargo office of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad on Sunday.
The value of the jewellery according to the invoice is Rs. 1.11 crore. Seven employees of the Marudhar Courier Service Company led by its manager Hariram took the consignment of gold jewellery packed in four boxes in a metallic silver-coloured Santro.
They stopped the car near a steep curve outside the cargo office to shift some boxes into a Maruti van when two persons accosted them.
The duo speaking in Hindi and aged between 25 and 35 years were said to be wielding a sword and a revolver. They threatened Hariram and others, ordering them to come out of the car. Soon they fled in the same Santro car (AP9 BG 1081) along with the booty even while the courier service employees watched aghast.
He informed the matter to company officials who alerted the police control room around 10 a.m.
Police, however, do not appear to be convinced with the courier firm employees’ version. “How can two offenders overpower seven people and escape with the jewellery? How were they aware of the precise timing of the flight arrival? We are examining all these factors,” said a senior police official.
