Finance seminar at IIM-K ends

KOZHIKODE: Arthanomics, the annual finance seminar of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K), concluded on Sunday.

Among the speakers at the two-day seminar, with the theme “Mergers and Acquisitions – India Inc. on the prowl,” were Kamlesh Gandhi, Head of the Investment banking division of Religare, Manoj Gupta, Vice President at Nexus Capital Advisors and Sadashiv Rao, Senior Director at IDFC.

Scene in India

Mr. Gandhi observed that compared to the global Investment Banking (IB) scenario, the deals in India were on a much smaller scale. Hence there was a lot of growth potential for the industry.

Mr. Gupta spoke about the parameters on the basis of which prospective ventures for funding are evaluated. He described the entire investment process as “… long, tiring, often frustrating, but ultimately a hugely rewarding one.”

Ravi Mani, Associate Director, Equirius Capital explained the nitty-gritty of Investment Banking as he elaborated on the behind-the-scenes happenings during the M&A deals.

Mr. Rao talked about infrastructure financing while elaborating on market analysis and the varied risks involved.

Hemendra Aran, founder and CEO of Aranca, and Som Krishna from ICICI Investment Banking Group spoke.

A panel discussion on “Cross Border M&As” was also held. Arthanomics ’08 was conducted by Financially Yours, the Finance Interest Group of IIM-K.
