Transfer of officials criticised

Staff Correspondent

TUMKUR: All India Congress Committee Member G.S. Basavaraj on Sunday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party Government in the State for effecting mass transfer of officials.

Mr. Basavaraj told presspersons that more than a thousand officials had been transferred. Work in various departments has been paralysed owing to these transfers, he said.

He alleged that the B.S. Yeddyurappa Government had neglected the irrigation sector.

Mr. Basavaraj criticised the recent Cabinet decision to allocate funds for the Upper Bhadra project and said: “The project proposed by the K.C. Reddy Committee is unpractical. Tumkur and Chitradurga districts will be denied water if the project is not amended as suggested by G.S. Paramashivaiah.”

Mr. Basavaraj criticised Mr.Yeddyurappa for handing over the Gokarna Temple to the Ramachandrapura Math. The Dambhala Math, Gadag, has staked its claim on the Siddalingeswara Shrine at Yedyur, and Srikantadatta Wadiyar on the Chamundeswari and a host of other temples.

A Gubbi math was likely to seek the ownership of the Channabasaveswara Temple there, he claimed.

Criticising the BJP Government for failing to provide a site for the Tumkur University campus, Mr. Basavaraj said a plot was chosen at Bidare Katte and it was the forest and. “The varsity may not succeed in taking the possession of the forest land.”

He suggested that the Government allocate the 96-acre plot at Mallasandra on the Bangalore-Honnavar National Highway no.206 for the varsity campus.
