COLOMBO: Sri Lanka has offered all facilities, including land, to the Tatas to help relocate its Singur car project in the wake of the controversy relating to land acquisition in West Bengal. A spokesperson for the Sri Lanka’s Board of Investment (BOI) said here on Sunday that Sri Lanka was interested in establishing an automobile manufacturing plant at the Special Economic Zone at Mirigama. Formal offer soon“We are ready to extend all facilities to the Tatas to enable it to relocate the Nano car project. Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion, Sarath Amunugama, would send a formal letter to the Tatas making an offer,” the spokesperson said. Officials in the Indian High Commission said they had not been approached by the Sri Lanka government so far. “We have not heard anything from the government or the BOI. We do not know whether the Sri Lanka government would route its proposed communications to the Tata group through the mission or send it directly,” an official at the mission said. BenefitsTalking to the media a few days ago, Dr. Amunugama said Tatas would benefit from the advantages of the Indo-Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which makes it possible for Indian companies to manufacture goods in Sri Lanka for re-export to India or other markets.
