Violation of norms

It is disturbing to note that the organisers of Vinayaka Chavithi pandals are violating all norms and creating inconvenience to the public. Though there is no one in the pandal, music is being played from morning to midnight, causing sound pollution . Though the organisers are advised to use only idols made of clay, one cannot see such idol in any of the 100 and odd pandals in the city. Notwithstanding the environmental degradation, the organisers have preferred to install idols made of POP and coated with chemical paints. Traffic jams at the pandals is another major problem during evening hours. The police are requested to take stringent steps against the violators of norms at the pandals, so that the norms could be adhered to at least in the future.

Town planning neglected

The most neglected part in the town planning is the planning of roads without storm water drainage. In a low contoured area like Vijayawada, highest priority must be given to drainages. For the last six decades, least priority was given to drainages and top priority was accorded to the laying of new roads and developing of new layouts. Blockage of drainages with domestic waste is another major problem in the city, as most of the residents are giving least priority to waste management. The municipal authorities must check the drainages regularly and ensure free flow of sewage, particularly in the rainy season. Otherwise, what had happened in Mumbai and Hyderabad would be repeated in the city with stagnation of rainwater in residential areas.

Plan parking areas for autorickshaws

The autorickshaw drivers in the city have been parking their three-wheelers on the road corners, besides halting them at the bus stops. One can see a good number of autorickshaws being parked near low bridge, telephone exchange and Srinivasa Mahal centre at any point of time. These vehicles are posing grave threat to other road users and to the commuters who stop near the autorickshaws and bargain for the fare. The traffic police are requested to look into the issue and take stringent steps to regulate the autorickshaw drivers. Unless the authorities crack the whip, the problems of the road users would continue.

Railway phone enquiry

The railway enquiry office in Vijayawada is serving the commuters round-the-clock. But, those who want to know the information through telephone are facing difficulties, as the phones are being engaged for most of the time. Despite repeated efforts for half an hour, one cannot get the line during night time. The railway authorities are requested to increase the number of telephone lines. It will help people get the required information without much delay.
