Special Correspondent

RAIPUR: The second unit of the Bellary Thermal Power Station with a capacity of 500 MW will become operational on November 1, 2010, according to Principal Secretary to Energy Department K. Jairaj.

Mr. Jairaj announced this at a programme in Raipur on Monday to sign a memorandum of understanding between Karnataka and Chhattisgarh for implementing the first phase of a pit-head power plant with a capacity of 2,000 MW.

The civil work on the second unit of RTPS was launched recently. The first unit with a capacity of 500 MW commenced commercial operation about two months ago.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and Energy Minister K.S. Eshwarappa said the chances of Karnataka getting a new ultra mega power project with a capacity of 4,000 MW at Mannur and Kudigi of Bijapur have brightened.
