BANGALORE: Stree Shakti products could be sharing space with global brands if the ambitious plans by the Department of Women and Child Development take off. Minister for Women and Child Development P.M. Narendraswamy told presspersons on Monday that the department had decided to construct a Stree Shakti Bhavan at Kalasandra in Bangalore for display of products developed by self-help groups (SHGs) in the State. The estimated cost of the bhavan is Rs. 1 crore. All support would be given to SHGs to make their products compete with top brands. Private parties would be roped in to market their products. Marketing of products by SHGs has been a big problem. The bhavan would provide space for exhibition and other activities of SHGs, the Minister said. Listing out the achievements of the department on the occasion of completion of 100 days by the BJP government on Tuesday, he said an order has been issued to recruit 418 anganawadi supervisors. The Government had also taken a decision to bring down the rate of interest on loans granted to SHGs from 12 per cent to six per cent, he added.
