Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, inaugurating the Metric System Publicity Week in New Delhi on September 7, said the adoption of metric system of weights and measures would bring about a saving of one year in school arithmetic according to an expert estimate. He explained the benefits of this system which the government has decided to introduce in the country from October 1.
