East Bengal beats Peerless

KOLKATA: East Bengal defeated Peerless SC 3-1 in a premier division match of the Calcutta Football Leaguee on Monday.

Sunil Chhetri scored in the second minute to give East Bengal the right start. East Bengal doubled in the lead in the 53rd minute when Peerless defender Soumen Sarkar miscued a clearance into his own goal. Alvito D’Cunha made it 3-0 in the 61st minute. Emmanuel Junior pulled one back for Peerless (3-1) by converting a 77th-minute penalty.

East Bengal remained in the third position with 24 points from 13 matches. — Principal Correspondent
