The MLAs are Manju, Nemiraj, Sampangi, Dhondiba They have not declared assets and liabilities for 2007 BANGALORE: Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde on Saturday initiated steps for filing criminal cases against four MLAs for their failure to declare assets and liabilities for 2007. Criminal cases will be filed against A. Manju (Arakalgud), Nemiraj Nayak (Hagaribommanahalli), Sampangi N. (Bagepalli) and Katakadhond Vittal Dhondiba (Nagthan). Notice“Show-cause notice have been issued to the four legislators. Filing of complaints will follow,” Mr. Hegde told The Hindu. Section 22 of the Lokayukta Act makes it mandatory for all legislators to submit details of their assets and liabilities and those of their family members by June 30 every year. An extension of two months from June 30 is given to the legislators after the Lokayukta sends a report to the Governor about those who have not filed the details. ComplaintsThe Lokayukta has been filing criminal complaints against legislators who have failed to submit the declarations by August 30, by considering it as an offence under Section 176 of the Indian Penal Code. This action of the Lokayukta is apart from that mandated under the Lokayukta Act, where he publishes the names of legislators in three newspapers. Apart from these four legislators, 14 former legislators have not filed their declarations. They are H. Anjaneya, S. Balaraj, H.R. Gaviappa, Hakyagol Dattu Yellappa, Mahadev, Mallikarjun Sidramappa Khube, Nanjamari B, Ramu H.B., Shivashankarappa T.H., Somashekar M.K., Thippareddy G.H., Venkatamuniyappa B.P., Venkatesh M.P. and Vinay Kulkarni. Action“We are yet to decide on the action to be taken against them,” Mr. Hegde said. The Lokayukta said that work was on to publish the names of the legislators and former legislators in three newspapers.
