Visa applications are usually rejected on grounds such as improper evidence or insufficient funds and poor English ability
CHENNAI: Students applying to an institution in the United Kingdom should check if it is listed in the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) register. They should also keep an unconditional offer letter from the institution, educational certificates, evidence of English Language capability, such as IELTS score, and financial documents ready while preparing for entry clearance, said Nim Bahadur, manager, Education UK (South India). He was addressing students at a seminar on ‘student visas’ organised by the British Council here on Tuesday. He said that institutions in the UK, besides being recognised internationally, offer a wide choice of courses, and also give students exposure to different cultures. Cost assessmentStudents could assess their costs based on the course fee and adding living costs of 7,500 pounds per annum if the institution is in London or a little less if elsewhere. Documents required for a student applying for a visa interview include the visa application form, the student questionnaire, the passport, recent passport size photographs, educational certificates, offer letter, financial documents and the visa fee. Funding optionsThe different options in funding were also explained. Students could either opt to fund themselves or have their education sponsored by relatives. Appropriate documents are mandatory in both cases. Visa applications were usually rejected on grounds such as improper evidence of funds, insufficient funds, poor English ability and forged documents.
