Seeking shelter: Flood victims of YSR Nagar in Ponangi village in West Godavadi district return home from a relief camp on Wednesday. ELURU: Flash floods in different parts of West Godavari district on Wednesday claimed the life of one person, while two others were feared dead. G. Venkatesh of TCHR Palem was washed away in the floods in Tammileru while Chintala Srinivas and Racharla Chinna Rao were feared to have suffered a similar fate. However, people living in the low-lying areas close to Tammileru heaved a sigh of relief as the floodwaters receded gradually. E. Satish Kumar, Divisional Engineer, Irrigation, said the water level at the gauge point at FCI godowns came down from 17 feet on Tuesday to 15 feet on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the floodwaters entered YSR Nagar near Ponangi on the city outskirts, leading to the evacuation of over 50 families to a relief camp set up in a municipal school. All of them returned home on Wednesday morning. People in the vulnerable areas are, however, feeling insecure in view of the forecast of heavy rain in the next two days. Officials said they were fully prepared to handle the situation.
